Educational and Research Interests:
Mr. McGann is on the faculty of the Horticulture Department and teaches five of the core courses in the Landscape Contracting Program. In addition he is also one of the Hort Club advisors and is a licensed landscape architect in Pennsylvania. Prior to coming to the University, Mr. McGann worked at the New York Botanical Garden as a landscape architect where he was involved in the extensive restoration of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and other site development/improvement projects. Mr. McGann has also worked in historic landscape restoration in the Hudson Valley for Sleepy Hollow Restorations. His areas of responsibility there included designing new garden and display areas for the 4 historic sites, research into appropriate horticultural techniques and plant material, and overseeing all grounds maintenance. While in this position he also worked with the White Plains, N.Y. school district where he developed a heirloom plant and garden project for three fourth grade classes under the Artist in Residence Program. His current landscape interests include period garden restoration and research of heirloom plant material. Mr. McGann has also been instrumental in designing and installing the Penn State AT&T Medieval Garden at the University Park Campus which started in the spring of 2000.
