Maize is a highly important agricultural crop worldwide. Research in belowground dynamics of maize is increasing to promote sustainable agriculture and ameliorate growing environmental stressors which reduce maize production. My thesis focuses on generating maize material that can be used in experiments to answer questions about belowground dynamics in maize. Specifically, my material focuses on addressing questions about how maize plants utilize arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). My work takes a dual approach in reverse and forward genetics in material generation that will be primed to answer questions about the responsiveness of maize varieties to AMF.
