UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Anyone interested in learning how to grow hydroponic vegetables on a small scale can get advice from experts by viewing a Penn State Extension webinar called “Hydroponics Growers School 101.”
This prerecorded course is aimed at vegetable growers, beginning farmers and vegetable lovers. Topics include an overview of the types of vegetables suitable for hydroponic growing, the easiest and most challenging vegetables to grow, growing methods, and the necessary equipment.
Speakers include Elsa Sánchez, professor of horticultural systems management in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences; Jeffrey Stoltzfus, extension educator with expertise in the Food Safety Modernization Act and produce safety; and Maria Gorgo, horticulture extension educator with expertise in farm food safety.
Instructors discuss the food safety considerations required to comply with the produce safety rule under the Food Safety Modernization Act.
Participants can access the course through 11:59 p.m. Nov. 28 for a $30 fee. Registration is required to receive the link to access the webinar.
