Penn State welcomed students and advisors from across Pennsylvania for the Pennsylvania FFA Turfgrass Science Career Development Event (CDE), an annual competition that connects classroom learning with real-world applications in turfgrass management.
The Turfgrass Science CDE challenges students in a variety of topics, including turfgrass, weed, insect, disease, soil, irrigation, and equipment identification. Participants also demonstrate their skills through soil test interpretation, calibration exercises, label interpretation, and industry-based problem-solving scenarios.
The event provides students with valuable exposure to career opportunities in sports field management, golf course management, lawn and landscape management, research, and other sectors of the turfgrass industry. Penn State faculty, staff, graduate students, and industry partners assisted with coordinating and administering the event, helping inspire and support the next generation of turfgrass professionals.
