Summary
Advances in root phenotyping through RootRobot, a tractor-pulled root crown excavator and stationary imaging unit, will allow for rapid, in-field, automatic root excavation and imaging. RootRobot will excavate and process 1 plant every 6 seconds. A separate stationary imaging unit will collect 3600 images of each root crown. Images will be analyzed and reconstructed into 3D root models via DIRT3D software.
