The time to complete the requirements for a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Plant Sciences ranges from 10 to 15 semesters.
A student devoting half-time to study for the Ph.D. degree normally will require 10 semesters beyond the M.S. degree, or 15 semesters if entering the program without an M.S. degree. However, much will depend upon the nature of the dissertation research problem. In most cases a student will not take more than 5 years to complete the program from the date of admission to candidacy. A Ph.D. student is required to complete the program, including acceptance of the Ph.D. dissertation, within 8 years after the date of successful completion of the qualifying examination, not including approved leaves of absence as outlined in GSAD-906.
