USDOT / 2011-14. PI: Larry Smart, Department of Horticulture, Cornell University.
This project focuses on development of high-yielding, short-rotation cultivars of shrub willow and improved agronomic practices. Cultivar improvement will be accomplished through advanced genomics-based breeding techniques. As part of the project, Penn State researchers (Armen Kemanian, John Carlson, Mike Jacobson, and Tom Richard) participate in a network of hybrid and variety trials and coordinate modeling activities. We also have twin willow polyculture trials at Geneva, NY and State College, PA.
