Our primary field research facility is the Joseph Valentine Turfgrass Research Facility located on the University Park campus.
The 17 acre facility includes 2.5 acres of close-cut creeping bentgrass for golf course putting green research. Other areas include intensively maintained Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue.
The facility is equipped with an automatic irrigation system to provide convenient, uniform watering. Many types of research instruments, such as penetrometers, infiltrometers, impact testers, etc., are available for quantifying many of the variables associated with turfgrass management.
A wide array of turfgrass management equipment and specialized materials make it possible to create or mimic many "real world" turfgrass environments. The Valentine Center provides a highly sophisticated arena to support all areas of turfgrass research.
