The annual Duff Shaw Classic Golf Tournament, named in memory of 1986 two-year class alumnus Duff Shaw, co-sponsors a Penn State scholarship. The Duff Shaw is awarded to one student per year in the Two-Year Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program.
This award was created to honor Duff Shaw and is sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Group and the Southern California Golf Course Superintendents Association. Duff Shaw was a 1986 graduate of the program. A mere six years after graduation, Duff lost his life after a struggle with cancer. To honor Duff, a golf tournament is held in Southern California to raise money for Duff's wife Kristi and daughter Erin. A portion of these proceeds is set aside and presented each year to one outstanding individual from the Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program.
